Bangkok: The King Prajadhipok Institute has unveiled the findings of its 6th KPI Poll, titled "Election 2026...Who is Suitable as the New Prime Minister and the Direction of the Constitutional Referendum?" Conducted from January 16-19, 2026, the survey gathered responses from 2,000 citizens aged 18 and over from across the nation.
According to Thai News Agency, the poll results indicate that 23.4% of participants remain undecided on a suitable candidate for the prime ministerial role, marking a slight decrease from 26.2% in the previous poll. Anutin Charnvirakul has gained momentum, increasing his support to 18.9% from 16.9%. Meanwhile, Nattapong Ruangpanyawut's popularity has declined to 15.2% from 18.8%. Prof. Yoschanan Wongsawat has seen a rise, securing 12.1% compared to 10.9% earlier, whereas Abhisit Vejjajiva's support has fallen to 8.8% from 10.2%.
The primary motivator for voters in this election, according to a survey by LINE TODAY, was the desire for change, which accounted for 52.6% of responses. This was followed by an affinity for party policies at 30.2%, preference for individual candidates at 8.6%, uncertainty at 6.2%, and a wish to prevent the incumbent from winning at 2.4%.
Regarding the constitutional referendum, 53% of respondents are in favor, while 23.4% oppose it and 23.6% have no opinion. Generational analysis shows Gen Z leading with 58.8% in favor, followed by Gen Y at 56.7%, Gen X at 52.8%, and Baby Boomers at 46%.
Key issues for constitutional amendments received average scores out of 5, with the election system for senators scoring 3.74, the mechanism for removing political figures and independent organizations scoring 3.69, and the origin and functions of independent organizations scoring 3.68.
Information dissemination about the referendum reveals that 35% of people learned about it through media or private organizations, 15.8% from government sources, 15.8% from local authorities, 14.6% from political parties, 13.7% from the Election Commission, and 5.1% from educational institutions.
