Farm-Gate Pork Prices Reach New High Amid Market Demand

Bangkok: Farm-gate pork prices have surged to 79 baht per kilogram, driven by heightened demand for large, mixed-size pigs. This price increase is particularly beneficial for small-scale farmers. The anticipated end of the "Thai Help Thai Plus" project in September, prior to the October Vegetarian Festival, suggests that pork prices may stabilize during that period.

According to Thai News Agency, the National Swine Breeders Association announced that the farm-gate price of live pigs for week 35 of 2026, as of August 28, 2026, rose by 2 baht per kilogram. This increase aligns with the rising demand in the market for various sizes of pigs. The current price range of 76-79 baht per kilogram varies across regions, with the western region at 76-78 baht, the eastern region at 76-79 baht, the northeastern region at 76 baht, the northern region at 76-78 baht, and the southern region at 78 baht per kilogram.

The price increase from the previous week's range of 74-78 baht per kilogram indicates a positive trend for the pork industry. This comes after a challenging period where farmers faced losses due to prices barely exceeding production costs. Nonetheless, feed costs remain a concern for the industry.

Looking ahead, the association notes that pork prices are expected to remain stable with the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" project concluding and the upcoming Vegetarian Festival, during which meat consumption typically decreases. Additionally, pig farmers are advised to enhance their biosecurity measures amid the rainy season's challenges, as changing weather conditions can impact animal health and disease risk.
