Farmers Rejoice as Commerce Ministry Collaborates to Slash Fertilizer Prices by 50 Baht/Bag

Bangkok: The Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Internal Trade, has announced a significant collaboration with three leading associations of fertilizer manufacturers and importers to launch the “Reduce the Price of Chemical Fertilizers for Farmers in 2025” initiative. This project aims to cut fertilizer prices by up to 50 baht per bag, covering 79 chemical fertilizer formulas. A total of 10.06 million bags, equivalent to approximately 503,000 tons, will be available under this scheme, significantly reducing costs for farmers nationwide.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Witthayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, emphasized the increased demand for fertilizers from April onwards, particularly for the cultivation of main-season rice in the central region starting in May, and animal feed corn from March to June. In response, the department has teamed up with three fertilizer associations to introduce the “Chemical Fertilizer Price Reduction Project for Farmers 2025” to alleviate the production costs for farmers.

The initiative involves collaboration with the Thai Fertilizer and Agricultural Business Association, the Thai Fertilizer Manufacturers Association, and the Thai Agricultural Business Association, which collectively include 26 entrepreneurs. They are participating in the 2025 Fertilizer and Chemical Fertilizer Discount Project for Farmers, offering discounts ranging from 20 to 50 baht per bag. The project encompasses 79 chemical fertilizer formulas, totaling over 10.06 million bags or about 503,000 tons. These formulas cater to a wide range of crops, including rice, field crops, orchards, fruit trees, and ornamental plants. Key fertilizer formulas for rice fields include 46-0-0, 0-0-60, 16-20-0, and 15-15-15, with more than 5.49 million bags available, nearly double the previous round, to meet farmers’ needs during the upcoming planting season.

Farmers interested in the project can order fertilizers through their respective farmer institutions, such as farmer groups, agricultural cooperatives, BAAC, community enterprises, and community soil and fertilizer management centers. These institutions will compile purchase orders and coordinate with the Department of Agricultural Extension and the Department of Cooperative Promotion to ensure the distribution of low-cost fertilizers to the regions. Additionally, farmers have the option to order directly from fertilizer factories. The project’s fertilizer prices will be published on the department’s website, www.dit.go.th, and shared through provincial commerce, agriculture, and cooperative offices nationwide, as well as community radios to directly inform farmers.

This project is part of a broader effort to support farmers by managing both production costs and income from their products. The department has received substantial cooperation from associations related to chemical fertilizers and is committed to working with all sectors to ensure farmers’ access to quality fertilizers at fair prices, thereby fostering sustainable stability in Thailand’s agricultural sector.
