Father Seeks Justice After Son’s Tragic Death at Saraburi Songkran Festival

Saraburi: A father has made an emotional appeal to the Lawyers Council of Thailand following the tragic death of his son, a high school student, who was killed when a giant sign collapsed on him during a Songkran festival concert in Saraburi. The incident occurred amidst a summer storm, and the grieving father is concerned that the case may not progress adequately, potentially denying justice for his son.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaiwat Boonkuer, Registrar of the Lawyers Council of Thailand, and his team supported Mr. Charoenchai, the father of the deceased student, Suphawich. They met with the investigating officer to file a complaint and provide evidence to forward the case to the Saraburi Provincial Justice Office. This move aims to secure assistance and compensation for the bereaved family and to ensure the case progresses without delay. Although concert organizers have offered support for funeral expenses, the family has not been contacted regarding further assistance.

Mr. Charoenchai expressed his apprehension about receiving fair treatment, despite the initial contact from the event organizers. He stressed that his intentions in filing the complaint were not only to seek justice but also to submit evidence to the Public Assistance Fund of the Saraburi Provincial Justice Office for potential aid. Discussions about further assistance with the organizers have yet to occur.

In a related development, Police Colonel Sakchai Kraiweeradechachai, superintendent of the Saraburi City Police Station, has directed the investigating officer to convene a meeting on May 5th. This meeting will include all victims and the concert organizers, aiming to reach a joint resolution on the case.
