First Asian Elected President of International Federation of Social Workers

Bangkok: The Thai Association of Medical Social Workers congratulates Eva Ponce de Le³n on making history as she becomes the first Asian to be elected President of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW).

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Eva P. Ponce de Leon, who serves as the Executive Director and former National President of the Association of Social Workers in the Philippines (PASWI), has been elected as the Global President of IFSW. Her election took place during the IFSW General Election in Nairobi, Kenya, on June 24, 2026. The International Federation of Social Workers includes 141 national social work associations worldwide, representing over 3 million social workers.

The Thai Association of Medical Social Workers expressed their congratulations, highlighting the leadership potential and commitment of Filipino social workers. This achievement is not only a significant honor for the social work profession but also a historic milestone as Ms. Ponce de Le³n is the first Asian to hold this position. Her election elevates ASEAN social work to an international level, promoting collaboration between countries such as Thailand and the Philippines to enhance social welfare services for vulnerable communities.

Additionally, Ms. Ponce de Le³n has played a crucial role in developing professional ties between Thailand and the Philippines, particularly through exchange programs for social workers specializing in elderly care.
