Foreign Ministers of China, Thailand, and Cambodia Agree on Key Issues

Yuxi: The Foreign Ministers' Meeting of China, Thailand, and Cambodia reached a consensus on three issues.

According to Thai News Agency, discussions between the foreign ministers resulted in a consensus on three critical points, following a joint ceasefire statement signed by Thailand and Cambodia.

China's official Xinhua news agency reported that the meeting, held in Yuxi, Yunnan Province, southwest China, concluded successfully. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, highlighted that Cambodia and Thailand's foreign ministries and armed forces exchanged comprehensive views. They expressed a commitment to de-escalate conflict and improve bilateral relations, based on the ceasefire. The trilateral discussions were deemed constructive, leading to several important consensuses.

The first point emphasized was the necessity to look forward together, ensuring that the hard-won ceasefire agreement is upheld and not abandoned, preventing a return to conflict. The second point focused on maintaining and enhancing progress, stressing the importance of ongoing communication and consultation in implementing the ceasefire, with a gradual restoration of bilateral relations. The third consensus underscored the importance of restoring mutual trust, considering the conflict-induced loss of trust but recognizing the perpetual neighborhood of Cambodia and Thailand.

A press statement after the meeting indicated that Cambodia and Thailand would work on enhancing communication efficiency, deepening mutual understanding, promoting a gradual ceasefire, restoring exchanges, rebuilding political trust, improving relations, and maintaining regional peace.

The meeting, led by Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeo and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn, was held in Yunnan Province, China, from December 28-29 at the invitation of Mr. Wang Yi. This followed the signing of a joint ceasefire statement on December 27 in Chanthaburi Province, which ended renewed fighting that had erupted on December 7, 2025.
