Free Bus Rides for Children Under 15 on National Children’s Day in Bangkok

Bangkok: The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has announced a special initiative for National Children's Day 2026, allowing children under the age of 15 to enjoy free bus rides on all routes throughout the day.

According to Thai News Agency, this initiative by BMTA aligns with the National Children's Day motto for 2026, "Love Thailand, Care for the World," as articulated by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The motto emphasizes nurturing a sense of national pride and global responsibility among young citizens. The BMTA's effort aims to not only encourage the use of public transportation from an early age but also to help reduce the reliance on private vehicles, thereby addressing traffic congestion and environmental concerns.

Mr. Kittikan Chomduang Charuwarapolkul, Director of BMTA, highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance learning opportunities for children and promote sustainable environmental practices. On January 10, 2026, children will be able to ride any BMTA bus, whether regular or air-conditioned, without charge, by simply presenting their national identification card.

To ensure a safe and seamless experience for young passengers, BMTA has implemented a series of measures. Bus drivers are instructed to comply with traffic laws meticulously and ensure that bus doors are operated safely. Fare collectors are tasked with assisting children in boarding and finding appropriate seating. Additionally, GPS operators will monitor bus activities via CCTV to manage any emergencies, such as ensuring children do not get separated from their parents. Supervisors will inspect buses during service, and special patrol officers will be stationed at key locations hosting Children's Day events to aid in the safety and convenience of families.
