Fuel Prices to Drop as EPPO Approves Reduction in Diesel and Gasoline Prices

Bangkok: The Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) has approved a 50 satang per liter reduction in diesel and gasoline prices. The Fuel Fund Management Committee (FFMC) announced the decision following its recent meeting, which approved a reduction in the fuel fund levy for diesel by 10 satang per liter and for E85 gasoline by 50 satang per liter. The committee also requested fuel retailers to adjust the retail price of all types of diesel and gasoline at gas stations by 50 satang per liter, effective January 9. This adjustment will bring the retail price of diesel to 29.94 baht per liter, down from the previous price of 30.44 baht per liter.

According to Thai News Agency, the financial position of the Oil Fund is steadily improving due to lower global oil prices and efficient fund management. This positive trend has enabled the reduction in retail fuel prices, aligning with the Ministry of Energy's effort to alleviate living costs for the public while ensuring domestic energy price stability. Despite the current stability, the National Energy Policy Council (NEPC) has instructed the Oil Fund Office to keep a close watch on international developments, specifically in the United States and Venezuela, to prevent any significant impact on domestic fuel prices.

As of January 4, 2026, the Oil Fund was in deficit by 4,788 million baht, with a positive balance of 34,573 million baht in the oil account and a negative balance of 39,361 million baht in the LPG account. The reduction in the contribution rate to the Oil Fund for oil will decrease daily revenue to approximately 234.36 million baht, down from the previous 241.42 million baht per day.
