Government Denies Rumors of Train Service Suspensions

Bangkok: The government has confirmed that all 30 social train services are operating as normal and have not been cancelled, countering reports circulating on social media. The government has urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information to prevent confusion.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, addressed the situation, revealing that images of an internal State Railway of Thailand (SRT) document suggested plans to suspend 30 social service train services and reduce the routes of 16 train services starting June 1, 2026. This misinformation has caused significant concern among the public, particularly those who depend on rail transportation.

Ms. Ploytalay clarified that the State Railway of Thailand has confirmed there will be no cancellations or reductions of social service train services on the mentioned date. The internal document was only seeking management-level approval in principle and was not intended for public distribution. Passengers can continue to travel as per their usual schedules on all routes.

The Deputy Spokesperson emphasized that the government, in conjunction with the SRT and the Ministry of Transport, recognizes the importance of social rail services. Any potential changes in the future will undergo careful consideration to avoid public inconvenience. The SRT has assured that there will be no abrupt changes in train operations without providing alternative transportation options. The public is advised to verify train schedules through official SRT channels, such as their website, passenger train tracking system, Facebook page, or the 24-hour Customer Service Center.
