Government’s Household Debt Mediation Efforts Yield Significant Results in Thailand

Bangkok: The government is moving forward with proactive household debt mediation events across northern and northeastern Thailand, helping to reduce debt burdens by over 1,310 million baht.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, is prioritizing addressing economic problems and public debt in a systematic and comprehensive manner. All relevant agencies have been instructed to expedite the implementation of concrete measures to assist the public.

The deputy spokesperson stated that the Ministry of Justice, through the Department of Legal Execution and provincial justice offices, in collaboration with over 47 financial institutions, has organized more than 12 "Household Debt Resolution and Justice for the People" events in the northern and northeastern regions. These events aim to provide citizens with closer access to debt mediation and legal assistance.

Past results show that over 20,000 people participated in the program, with 11,279 debtors requesting mediation. Of these, 10,919 cases were successfully mediated, representing a total settlement of over 3.2 billion baht and saving the public over 1.31 billion baht.

In the pre-litigation group, over 8,670 cases were successfully mediated, representing 96.74%. In the post-court judgment group, over 2,249 cases were successfully mediated, representing 97.07%. This reflects the positive cooperation between the government, financial institutions, and the public in resolving debt problems sustainably.

The government affirms its commitment to continuing measures to address household debt, including mediation, debt restructuring, financial literacy, and ensuring access to justice, in order to help people regain economic stability and sustainability.
