Bangkok: Governor Chatchart clarifies that he is not yet supporting anyone to run for Bangkok City Council and that he stopped using the Better Bangkok group a long time ago. Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt clarified via his Facebook page, "Chatchart Sittipunt," after being questioned about potential candidates for Bangkok City Council using his image and name in their campaigns. Governor Chatchart stated that he is currently not supporting any candidates and will announce any future endorsements himself. Regarding the "Better Bangkok" group, he explained that it was a name used during his initial Bangkok gubernatorial campaign approximately five years ago and is no longer in use. He also clarified that the group is unrelated to the activities of his newly formed "Better Bangkok" campaign. He affirmed his willingness to work with everyone but requested that people avoid creating misunderstandings by suggesting he favors any particular group or individual.
According to Thai News Agency, reporters say that Mr. Chatchart has not yet given a clear answer on whether he will run for Bangkok governor again. He stated on April 19th that he would make a clear announcement after his current term ends on May 21st. However, he admitted that he has already considered his policies and has previously confirmed that if he were to run, he would prefer to do so as an independent candidate rather than affiliated with a political party.
The Bangkok gubernatorial election will be held on June 29th. Applications for candidates for Bangkok Metropolitan Council members and the Governor of Bangkok will be accepted from May 28th to June 1st, 2026, at the Sports Complex 2, Bangkok Youth Center (Thai-Japanese), Din Daeng District.
