Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rain in some areas in the North and the western part of upper Thailand, specifically targeting the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Tak, and Kanchanaburi. In addition, strong winds are expected to accompany the rainfall across various parts of the country.
According to Thai News Agency, the weather forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that heavy rain and strong winds will affect both the North and the upper western part of Thailand. The affected provinces could face dangers from heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, potentially leading to flash floods, forest runoff, and overflowing rivers. The risk is particularly high on hillsides near waterways and low-lying areas. This weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure cell in Myanmar and a monsoon trough that is passing through the upper part of the North, upper Laos, and into the low-pressure cell in upper Vietnam, coupled with a strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
In the maritime regions, the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to experience strong waves, reaching heights of 2-3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. In the lower Andaman Sea, waves are expected to be around 2 meters high, rising above that level during thunderstorms. Sailors are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas experiencing thunderstorms, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand should remain ashore.
The regional weather forecast highlights that Bangkok and surrounding areas will experience rain or thunderstorms over 60% of the area, with temperatures ranging from 25-35 degrees Celsius. The Northern region will see thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rain in some provinces, and temperatures between 22-30 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the Northeastern region will face thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with temperatures from 23-35 degrees Celsius. The Central and Eastern regions also anticipate thunderstorms in 60% of the area with strong winds and heavy rainfall.
In the Southern regions, both the east and west coasts will experience rain or thunderstorms in 20% of the area, mainly affecting certain provinces, with varying wind speeds and wave heights, particularly during thunderstorms. Residents and travelers are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
