Bangkok: Phaholyothin Road, heading towards the Northeast and North, is starting to get congested. Traffic is heavy this morning on Phahonyothin Road through Ayutthaya province, on the route to the Northeast and North. Traffic is expected to increase continuously.
According to Thai News Agency, traffic conditions on Phahonyothin Road and the Asian Highway, heading out of Bangkok through Ayutthaya Province, on the first day of the long Songkran holiday, saw a continuous flow of people returning to their hometowns since early morning. The roads were full of vehicles in all lanes. On Phahonyothin Road, from kilometer 55-56 in Lam Sai Subdistrict, Wang Noi District, Ayutthaya Province, to kilometer 66-77 in Sanap Thuep Subdistrict, Wang Noi District, bordering Nong Khae District, Saraburi Province, traffic was heavy and full in all lanes, but still moving well with occasional slowdowns. Similarly, traffic on the Asian Highway through Ayutthaya Province was also heavy but moving well.
Both routes are major thoroughfares leading to the Northeast and North, resulting in heavy traffic since early morning. Traffic is mostly experiencing slowdowns, and continued travel is expected throughout the day.
While traffic on Highway 24 heading towards southern Isaan, particularly in the Nang Rong district of Buriram province where it connects to Route 348, is becoming congested with increased vehicle volume, traffic is still moving steadily and is not experiencing significant gridlock. Heavy traffic is expected throughout the day, intensifying in the evening. Police from Nang Rong Police Station, in cooperation with the highway department, have placed barriers to close dangerous U-turn points to prevent accidents. Travelers complain that fuel prices have doubled this year, but they are forced to return home because this is a once-a-year opportunity to spend several days off with their families.
