Historic 144-Year-Old Wooden Monk’s Dwelling Destroyed by Fire in Lampang

Lampang: A fire completely destroyed a 144-year-old ancient wooden monk's dwelling at Wat Mon Pu Yak in Lampang province. The blaze, which broke out around 6:30 AM, engulfed the Burmese-style wooden structure, causing thick black smoke that was visible from various parts of the city due to the temple's elevated location. The fire prompted panic among local residents as officials worked tirelessly to bring the situation under control.

According to Thai News Agency, it took fire crews nearly an hour to extinguish the flames. Multiple fire trucks from different agencies were dispatched to the scene, and fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The abbot, who is the only monk residing at the temple, was away performing religious duties at the time of the incident.

Villagers residing near the temple reported hearing an explosion-like sound around 5 a.m. from the monk's quarters. Upon investigation, they noticed smoke and immediately alerted neighboring residents as well as authorities. Despite their efforts to contain the fire, the age and wooden construction of the dwelling contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. Forensic experts are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
