Hunt Underway for Ruthless Debt Collection Gang After Violent Incident in Kalasin

Kalasin: Authorities are hunting down a ruthless debt collection gang. When daily debt collection failed, they brandished weapons and threw firecrackers to threaten the debtor. They also ran over the debtor's father with a motorcycle, injuring him, before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing.

According to Thai News Agency, a gang of four teenage boys wearing full-face helmets threw a firecracker at the debtor's house, creating a plume of white smoke. They then brandished knives and shouted insults at the debtor. One of them then rammed a motorcycle into the debtor's father, injuring him, before a chaotic scene ensued.

This incident occurred around 6:00 PM yesterday. Following the incident, a Facebook user named "Aun Jadha" posted a video clip along with a message stating that they could not accept what happened and that if the perpetrators did not take responsibility, they would pursue legal action to the fullest extent.

Later, reporters traveled to the scene of the incident, which was only 50 meters from the village headman's house in Ban Don Sawan, Village No. 6, Namon Subdistrict, Namon District, Kalasin Province, and 2 kilometers from the Namon Police Station. They found traces of a firecracker explosion and a spray-painted marker indicating the location where the injured person was hit.

At Namon Police Station, the perpetrator's motorcycle, a brown Honda CBR 300R, was found parked on its side in the impound lot. The investigating officer is currently questioning the injured man's son. The questioning is not yet complete, and no further information has been released.

Mr. Phanchanat Matthawee, Chairman of the Veterans' Association of Kalasin Province, stated that at the time of the incident, he and his friends were attending a veterans' meeting. A group of men came to collect interest on an illegal loan, and a dispute arose with the debtor, escalating into a violent argument. Initially, there were only two debt collectors, but when the negotiations failed, they called for two more friends, bringing the total to four. They then threw explosive devices twice. The debtor called their family for help. Two of the debt collectors fled on a motorcycle but collided with the injured person, causing them to abandon their vehicle and flee.

Mr. Witthaya, the injured man who is still receiving treatment at Namon Hospital, recounted the incident, saying it happened around 6 PM yesterday. His son owed 4,000 baht in informal debt, with someone collecting 100 baht daily. That day, he didn't have the money, so an argument ensued. Mr. Witthaya ran to intervene and stop the men from harming his son, but he slipped and fell, and was then hit by a motorcycle driven by the debt collection gang, sustaining injuries. Fortunately, he survived.

The injured man's wife added that she told the debt collectors to come get the money in the evening, but they said, "We want it now," used abusive language, and then threw two bombs at their house. Her husband, who was sleeping inside, came out to help when he heard the explosions, grabbing a knife sheath, but before he could do anything, they pushed him to the ground and then ran him over with their car, causing his injuries.
