Bangkok: China's Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is seeking to strengthen educational and media cooperation with Thailand, building on the momentum of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations celebrated last year.
According to Thai News Agency, a delegation led by Wang Xiaoxiao, Deputy Director of HUST's Journalism Center, met with senior executives from MCOT Public Company Limited on Jan. 8, including Mr. Natthapong Pattaraphong, Senior Vice President of Thai News Agency, and Ms. Watcharin Setakudan, Vice President of International News Department. The two sides discussed deepening education and media cooperation and fostering Chinese-Thai youth exchanges through visual storytelling and academic collaboration.
In tandem with the visit, HUST launched the "Digital Traces: My 6-Week Journey at HUST" photo exhibition at Iconsiam in Bangkok. Organized in partnership with Thailand's Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) and smartphone maker vivo, the exhibition showcases the experiences of 50 Thai students who attended a 2025 summer camp at the Wuhan-based university.
The program focused on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse. The displayed works, captured on vivo smartphones, document the students' time in HUST's advanced laboratories and their cultural immersion in Wuhan. This exhibition serves as a platform for both cultural and academic exchange.
HUST currently hosts nearly 3,000 international students within its 80,000-strong student body, with a primary focus on postgraduate research in engineering and materials science. The university also provided information on scholarships available to Thai students interested in pursuing higher education in China. The exhibition is open to the public at Napalai Terrace, Iconsiam, until Jan. 18.
