Satun: The bridge over Khlong Tammalang in Satun Province is now complete and open for traffic, marking a significant milestone in regional connectivity and economic support. “Suriya” announced that the “Tammalang Canal Bridge” is 100% complete, providing a crucial link between the island and mainland. This development is expected to facilitate the transportation of agricultural and fishery products while improving the quality of life for over 2,000 households. Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, confirmed that the Department of Rural Roads (DRR) has finished the bridge construction, which was a royal initiative by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The bridge is now fully operational and promises to enhance travel convenience, speed, and safety between Koh Tammalang and the mainland.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Montree Dechasakulsom, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, elaborated that the project was launched due to the travel challenges faced by approximately 2,000 households on Koh Tammalang. Previously reliant on a 30-minute ferry ride, residents can now travel to the mainland much quicker, especially in emergencies or disasters. The bridge starts at the intersection of Highway 406 at km. 93+900, crosses Khlong Tammalang, and ends at Ban Tammalang Nuea, Village No. 2. It measures approximately 800 meters in length, with two lanes. The bridge deck structure is a balanced cantilever, and the road at its base is a reinforced concrete structure, spanning a total length of 1,950 meters with additional features such as a parking lot and ramps for access.
Given the bridge’s location in a national forest reserve, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources conducted a suitability and environmental impact study, which received approval from the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning. The authorities are currently monitoring the environmental impact post-opening to ensure sustainability.
