Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has declared that new military and construction targets will be set during an upcoming Workers' Party summit scheduled for this month.

According to Thai News Agency, Kim made this announcement while attending a ceremony where he received 50 600-millimeter multiple rocket launchers, presented as a gift for the 9th National Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The rocket launchers, manufactured by an arms factory workforce, were delivered to Kim during the ceremony held on Wednesday. On the same day, Kim also led a groundbreaking ceremony for a new construction initiative in the Hwaseong district of Pyongyang.

Kim Jong Un emphasized the potency of the rocket launchers, noting their similarity to high-precision missiles regarding accuracy and power. He highlighted their suitability for special attack or strategic missions, attributing this to the integration of artificial intelligence and hybrid guidance systems. South Korea's Yonhap news agency speculated that Kim's reference to "strategic missions" might indicate the weapon's potential to carry nuclear warheads for offensive purposes.

In preparation for the 9th National Summit, Kim Jong Un has previously underscored the progress of various projects. This political meeting is crucial for reviewing progress, setting new policy directions, and potentially reshuffling leadership. During his speech at the arms handover ceremony, Kim noted that the summit would outline new initiatives and goals for self-reliant national defense, with an emphasis on urgently advancing projects aimed at enhancing military capabilities in response to external threats.

Hong Min, an analyst from the Korea Institute for Unification in Seoul, has predicted that the 9th National Congress of the Workers' Party of North Korea could commence as early as Thursday or Friday.
