Washington: The British monarch reaffirmed ties with the United States. King Charles III of the United Kingdom addressed the U.S. Congress on Tuesday, stating that even in times of uncertainty and conflict in Europe and the Middle East, the United Kingdom and the United States will remain strong and united allies in defending democracy. This reaffirmation comes at a time when relations between the two long-standing allies are grappling with serious disagreements over the potential war with Iran.
According to Thai News Agency, King Charles III addressed members of the U.S. Congress during a rare joint statement to the Senate and House of Representatives, affirming that regardless of any differences or disagreements between the two nations, they remain committed to upholding democracy, protecting their people from harm, and honoring the bravery of those who risk their lives in service to their country every day.
This statement comes on the second day of a four-day official visit to the United States, coinciding with strained relations between the two countries following continuous criticism of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer by US President Donald Trump, who claimed the British leader did not support the US in a war against Iran.
