Lawyer Aun Stages Ritual Protest at Election Commission over Senate Collusion Allegations

Bangkok: In a dramatic demonstration, Mr. Patarapong Supakorn, known as Lawyer Aun Buriram, stormed the premises of the Election Commission wearing an amulet of Phra Samee Choti to perform a ritual intended to capture the spirits of those allegedly involved in the collusion that led to the selection of 229 senators.

According to Thai News Agency, Lawyer Aun, accompanied by a group of shamans dressed in white and a person resembling Mr. Saeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, led a symbolic protest outside the Election Commission office. This "Kaifeng Court" demonstration, involving 229 participants, was staged just before the Election Commission's vote on the Senate collusion case and a scheduled press conference at 3:00 PM.

Expressing his apprehensions, Mr. Phatarapong voiced concerns that the decision of the Election Commission might already be predetermined, regardless of the proceedings. He emphasized that despite the outcome, it is the public who will inevitably suffer the consequences. Lawyer Aun's symbolic act included wearing a large replica of an amulet, believed to signify his stance against what he perceives as a culture of bribery within the Election Commission.

Following the press conference, Lawyer Aun conducted a ritual aiming to capture the spirits of the 229 individuals he accuses of corruption and dishonesty. These spirits were symbolically placed into earthenware pots before being released, marking the culmination of the protest.
