Macron Calls for Urgent Economic Reforms in Europe Amid Potential US Confrontation

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that the European Union should prepare for a potentially escalating confrontation with the United States, urging member states to use the recent Greenland incident as a wake-up call to accelerate long-delayed economic reforms and strengthen the alliance's global presence.

According to Thai News Agency, in interviews published in several European newspapers, including Le Monde and the Financial Times, the French leader stated that Europe should not mistakenly assume that the temporary reduction in tensions with the US government will be a lasting change, even though disputes over Greenland, trade, and technology appear to have eased. The French leader opined that, in the face of clear aggression, Europe should not surrender or merely attempt to find a compromise, as such a strategy employed over the past several months has proven ineffective.

Furthermore, Macron accused President Donald Trump's administration of openly being anti-European and aiming to see division within member states. He also expressed confidence that in the coming months, the US would launch an attack on Europe on the issue of digital governance, warning of the possibility of President Trump imposing import tariffs if the European Union uses the Digital Services Act to regulate large technology companies.

European Union leaders are scheduled to meet in Brussels, Belgium on Thursday to discuss ways to strengthen the economy and increase its competitiveness against the United States and China on the international stage.
