Math Teacher in Bang Lamung Faces Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 10th-Grade Student

Bang lamung: A 10th-grade student has accused her math teacher of sexual assault in exchange for grades, prompting a high-profile investigation by the Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 2. The case, centered around a well-known school in Bang Lamung, has raised significant concerns over student safety and teacher misconduct. The police are actively pursuing legal action, emphasizing that the notion of "voluntary" participation is inapplicable due to the student's age and maturity level.

According to Thai News Agency, the case came to light when the student's mother noticed a stark change in her daughter's behavior. Once cheerful and lively, the student became withdrawn and depressed, ultimately revealing to her mother that her math teacher had sexually harassed and assaulted her on two occasions between June and July. The assaults were reportedly in exchange for better grades, with the teacher providing answer keys to exams and offering to let her skip assessments. This culminated in instances of harassment at a resort in the Bang Lamung district.

The school has taken immediate action against the teacher, ordering him to stop teaching and prohibiting contact with students. A fact-finding committee had already determined that the teacher's actions constituted a serious disciplinary offense. Evidence has been forwarded to the regional education office for further action.

The school's principal noted that the accused teacher had been employed for seven years without prior complaints. However, following the recent allegations, the school has removed him from teaching duties to prevent interference with the investigation, although he is allowed to perform other tasks until the investigation is concluded.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Thitawat Suriyachai has been closely monitoring the case, coordinating with the Chonburi Provincial Child and Family Welfare Center to ensure the victim's safety and well-being. He stressed the importance of recognizing the differing decision-making maturity between children and adults, especially for teachers who hold positions of trust and authority. The police are committed to following evidence and legal procedures rigorously to address these serious allegations.
