Bangkok: MEA is proceeding with the removal of telecommunication cables on Lat Phrao Road to make way for underground power cables. MEA and its network partners are proceeding with the removal of telecommunication cables along Lat Phrao Road, totaling 8.4 kilometers on both sides, to pave the way for underground power cables and enhance safety sustainably.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rachain Anvech, Deputy Governor of MEA (Metropolitan Electricity Authority), presided over the Kick Off ceremony for the removal of unused communication cables from utility poles along Lat Phrao Road, Section 2. This section stretches from the Ratchadaphisek Road intersection to Pradit Manutham Road, covering a total distance of 8.4 kilometers on both sides of the road. The Deputy Governor stated that there are two methods for organizing communication cables: burying them underground and organizing cables on utility poles. MEA is committed to implementing the underground cable project in accordance with the plan of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to ensure safety.
The Lat Phrao Road area is considered a strategic location due to its high concentration of business and residential areas. The focus is on removing all unused communication cables, followed by the removal of electricity poles. The remaining communication cables will then be organized neatly according to safety standards. Currently, MEA has successfully converted 105.3 kilometers of electricity lines to underground. In 2026, the target is to convert an additional 39.9 kilometers, bringing the total to 145.2 kilometers. MEA has a master plan to complete the approved network of 317.3 kilometers by 2032.
