MEA Warns Against Risks of Illegal Electrical Activities and Bitcoin Mining

Bangkok: The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has issued a stark warning against the illegal activities of electrical wire theft and unauthorized Bitcoin mining, highlighting the severe risks of electric shock, fire hazards, and legal consequences that could jeopardize individuals’ futures.

According to Thai News Agency, the MEA has observed a troubling rise in incidents involving illegal electrical wiring, meter tampering, and clandestine Bitcoin mining operations. These activities not only violate the law, carrying penalties of imprisonment and fines, but also pose significant dangers. Engaging in such practices can expose individuals to high-voltage electrical currents, potentially resulting in severe injuries or fatal accidents. Moreover, these illegal actions can lead to short-circuits and fires, disrupt the power distribution system, and even cause widespread power outages, affecting numerous electricity users and damaging public property managed by the MEA.

The MEA is urging public cooperation in monitoring and reporting any suspicious activities. Individuals are encouraged to report illegal electrical wire cutting, suspicious persons, or any violations related to electricity use. Reports can be made through the MEA Smart Life Application, available for both iOS and Android devices, or via various social media platforms. The public can also contact the MEA through the Line account MEA Connect (@MEAthailand) or by reaching the MEA Call Center Online at 1130, which operates 24/7.
