Mike Prasit Accused of Election Act Violation in Pathum Thani

Pathum thani: Mike Prasit, a candidate for Member of Parliament in Pathum Thani Constituency 8 representing the People's Party, is facing allegations of violating Section 73 of the Election Act. This comes after he posted photos of himself distributing drinks and t-shirts to thank voters in his constituency.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasit Puttampadungsak, a former MP for Pathum Thani Constituency 7 and current candidate for Constituency 8, shared a message and photos on his Facebook page, "Mike - Prasit Puttampadungsak - Prasit Puttampadungsak," six days prior. The images depicted Mr. Prasit and his team engaging with the community during a campaign event, where he expressed gratitude for voter support, distributing "Team Mike" shirts to constituents as a sign of appreciation.

Reporters noted that the Facebook post included photos of Mr. Prasit handing out crates of drinks and orange t-shirts emblazoned with his image, the People's Party logo, and the number 6, which corresponded to his candidacy in the election held on February 8th.

The Organic Act on the Election of Members of Parliament, Section 73, explicitly prohibits candidates from giving, offering, or promising to give property to any individual or organization to influence election outcomes. Violations can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment from 1 to 10 years, fines ranging from 20,000 to 200,000 baht, and a 20-year revocation of voting rights. Because the Election Commission Office is within the 60-day period for certifying election results, Mr. Prasit's actions are under scrutiny for potentially constituting vote buying.

In a separate incident, Mr. Prasit had previously taken legal action against the Election Commission Office concerning barcode issues on ballot papers, alongside demands for their destruction.
