Ministry of Finance and Bank of Thailand Launch Debt Resolution Program

Bangkok: The Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Bank of Thailand, has opened registration for the "Pay Off Debt Quickly, Move Forward" program. This initiative aims to assist borrowers with non-performing loans (NPLs) in settling their debts and improving their credit history.

According to Thai News Agency, the program, which was initially launched on November 11, 2025, is designed to provide a special mechanism for retail debtors to resolve their non-performing loans and restart their financial journey. Eligible participants must be individual debtors with a total non-performing loan amount not exceeding 100,000 baht as of September 30, 2025.

Public registration for the program commenced on January 5, 2026. Debtors meeting the eligibility criteria can register via the Bank of Thailand website, Sukhumvit Asset Management Company Limited (SAM) channels, or through participating financial institutions. The initial phase of the program focuses on debtors from commercial banks and financial business groups associated with these banks.

Sukhumvit Asset Management Co., Ltd. (SAM) plays a key role in implementing the project. As a social asset management company, SAM will acquire unsecured non-performing loans from the target group and restructure the debt under more favorable terms. This may include reducing the principal amount or waiving outstanding interest and fees, provided certain conditions are met. The aim is to help borrowers repay debts more efficiently, improve their credit records, and enhance their access to formal credit systems.

Participants can choose between settling the debt in full by immediately paying a portion or opting for an interest-free installment plan over three years. Post-registration, borrowers will be contacted by SAM or its representative. For more information, individuals can reach out to the Bank of Thailand contact center, SAM, or their original creditor's call center from January 5, 2026, onwards.
