Bangkok: The Ministry of Labour is preparing to evacuate the first batch of Thai citizens back to the country on March 7th. The Ministry of Labour is organizing the return of Thai workers from the Middle East due to unrest in the region. The initial group is scheduled to depart on March 7. The ministry assures that there have been no injuries or fatalities among Thai workers.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Treenuch Thianthong, the Minister of Labour, disclosed after the 2nd/2026 meeting of the Coordination Center for Monitoring and Assisting the Unrest in the Middle East that a war room had been set up to monitor the situation closely and coordinate necessary actions. The ministry has established a four-level response plan: stable situation, situation with widespread and frequent fighting, prolonged situation, and crisis situation.
The current situation is deemed stable, and consultations with the labor attach© confirm that there are no reports of Thai citizens being injured or killed. Many Thais in high-risk areas have expressed their wish to return home, with most residing in Iran, totaling 300 people, including 50 migrant workers. Accurate information is being compiled, and coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ongoing. Registration for the return will open on March 5th, with the first group traveling by car to Turkey on March 7th and 10th.
Two options for return travel have been outlined: a government-to-government arrangement, which requires a review of expenses, and the second option through a recruitment agency, which will cover all expenses. Additionally, the Ministry of Labour has coordinated with provincial labour offices to update the families of migrant workers using a communication application, providing support for travel expenses, and offering emotional assistance. Upon their return to Thailand, the Department of Employment and the Department of Skill Development will manage job placement and provide additional skills training to help the workers continue their careers.
