Ministry of Transport Implements Safety Measures for Songkran 2026 Travel

Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport has announced comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and convenience of travelers during the Songkran festival in 2026. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, emphasized the integration of resources across all transportation modes to facilitate safe public travel from April 10th to 19th.

According to Thai News Agency, the Transportation Safety Operations Center has summarized accident statistics as of April 10, 2026. The report indicates a decrease in road accidents, fatalities, and injuries compared to the previous year, with a total of 117 road accidents resulting in 11 deaths and 108 injuries. The Ministry aims to reduce these figures further by implementing key safety measures across road, rail, water, and air transportation.

The Ministry's initiatives include increasing public transportation services, ensuring vehicle and driver safety, and providing rest stops and a 24-hour hotline for travelers. The Marine Department and other affiliated agencies have also intensified their oversight of water and road transport systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and preventing fare increases during the festival.

The Department of Highways and the Department of Rural Roads have restored road surfaces at construction sites and reported on the operation of over 300 public service points nationwide. Meanwhile, the Department of Land Transport is conducting rigorous inspections of public buses and drivers to enhance safety.

Air travel is managed by the Department of Airports and Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, which have adjusted flight frequencies and terminal operations to accommodate increased passenger numbers. The State Railway of Thailand has also taken steps to ensure efficient and safe train operations during peak travel periods.

The Transport Company Limited reported that on April 10, 82,195 passengers departed Bangkok, and 51,393 returned, with a total of 6,851 bus trips completed. The company assured that all passengers reached their destinations safely.

Mr. Ratchakitprakarn urged travelers to adhere to traffic laws and safety practices, emphasizing the importance of not drinking and driving and ensuring adequate rest. The Ministry's efforts aim to provide a safe and enjoyable Songkran festival for all travelers.
