Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport is intensifying its scrutiny on government projects funded by the 2027 fiscal year, with a focus on maintaining existing roads and promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs). Minister Pipat Phakdi has issued policy directives aimed at ensuring strict control over these projects to maximize public benefit.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, led a meeting to oversee the management of the 2026 fiscal year budget and prepare the 2027 budget framework. The objective is to guide development efforts towards cost-effectiveness and public benefit. Mr. Pipat has been closely monitoring the 2026 budget, which amounts to 265,406.77 million baht, primarily focusing on national development investments totaling over 234,748.55 million baht.
Mr. Pipat instructed all agencies to align their project management with government goals and timelines to ensure efficient fund distribution. This strategy aims to boost the grassroots economy and generate continuous income for the people. For the 2027 budget framework, the Ministry has evaluated budget requests totaling 399,474.20 million baht from its affiliated agencies. The focus is on investments that address crises and lay the groundwork for sustainable national development while reducing unnecessary government spending and enhancing citizens' quality of life.
The Ministry's approach includes prioritizing maintenance over new construction, reducing unnecessary expenses, and initiating a pilot project for clean energy. This involves mandating the use of electric vehicles or hybrids for government agencies and supporting solar panel installations to combat pollution and PM 2.5 dust issues.
Mr. Pipat emphasized the need for the Ministry's future direction to align with the country's energy transition policy, focusing on transparency, cost-effectiveness, and efficient budget management. The aim is to develop a modern, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation system to drive sustainable economic growth in Thailand.
