MRTA Board Reviews Progress and Safety of Purple and Orange Line Projects

Bangkok: The MRTA board is actively monitoring the progress of two major electric train projects, the Purple Line and the Orange Line, by visiting construction sites and conducting stringent safety inspections.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Montri Dechasakulsum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mass Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), along with several board members and key officials including Mr. Phitsanu Horakul, Mr. Wichayayuth Boonchit, Mr. Jirawat Rattisunthorn, Mr. Kajphajon Udomthamphakdi, and Mr. Kittikorn Tanpaow, visited crucial construction sites. These included the Purple Line MRT project at various sections such as Tao Poon - Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road) and the Orange Line MRT project between Bang Khun Non and the Thailand Cultural Centre. The visits aimed to ensure strict adherence to safety standards at each site.

Mr. Montri Dechasakulsum reported that the Purple Line's overall progress was at 67.26% by the end of December 2025. Specifically, Contract 5 related to the elevated track structure was 48.30% complete, while Contract 2, focusing on station structural and architectural work, was 74.79% complete. The Orange Line's progress stood at 20.55% with civil works and railway systems at 22.30% and 7.19% completion respectively. Key stations like Democracy Monument and Bang Khun Non are undergoing significant construction activities such as diaphragm wall construction and soil improvement work.

The MRTA emphasized the importance of safety in both elevated and underground construction work. This includes maintaining equipment to standards, ensuring correct procedures, and regular machinery checks. Notably, operations involving large mobile cranes, like those at Soi Suk Sawat 70/2, require heightened safety measures. The MRTA is also committed to international safety standards and maintaining a safe environment for workers and bystanders.

Traffic management during construction is another priority, with the MRTA coordinating with relevant agencies to minimize disruptions. The authority is also focused on maintaining sidewalks for public accessibility and implementing environmental impact measures as per the Ministry of Transport's guidelines.

The Purple Line MRT project spans 23.63 kilometers with 17 stations, while the Orange Line extends for 13.4 kilometers with 11 underground stations. Detailed information and updates on these projects can be accessed through various online platforms and the MRTA's official website.
