Bangkok: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has transferred gold bars involved in the "Sathit Rangkhsiri" case to the Ministry of Finance, officially designating them as state property.
According to Thai News Agency, the Secretary-General of the NACC, Mr. Surapong Intarathaworn, instructed Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Prateep Kongsanit and Assistant Secretary-General Mr. Pattanapong Chanpetchapool, along with their team, to deliver the gold bars to the Ministry of Finance. The gold, weighing approximately 20,976 baht and valued at around 1.5 billion baht, was handed over through the Treasury Department. This action follows the Supreme Court's judgment No. 1256/2567, which pertains to the case between the Attorney General and Mr. Sathit Rangkhsiri.
The NACC had previously determined on October 28, 2016, that Mr. Sathit Rangkhsiri was guilty of illicit enrichment during his tenure as Director-General of the Revenue Department. It was found that the 15 gold bar purchase orders made under his name from Hua Seng Heng Commodity Co., Ltd. were assets gained through illicit means, reflecting an unusual increase in assets or improper acquisition due to his official position. The Supreme Court's decision mandated that these assets be forfeited to the state.
