New Electricity Tariffs Aim to Boost Solar Rooftop Installations

Bangkok: The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the National Energy Policy Council (NEPC), approving a price cap of 3 baht per unit for the first 200 units of electricity. The council also approved a resolution to promote the installation of solar rooftops, with the government purchasing excess electricity generated back at a rate of 2.20 baht per unit for a 10-year period. Meanwhile, the first meeting of the Economic Cabinet will be held next Monday, with plans to launch the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" program, scheduled to begin on June 1st.

According to Thai News Agency, these measures are intended to encourage the adoption of solar energy across the country, making renewable energy more accessible to the public. The NEPC's decision is seen as a step towards reducing the national dependence on non-renewable energy sources, while providing financial incentives for households to invest in solar technology.

The upcoming Economic Cabinet meeting is expected to further detail the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" program, which aims to enhance local economies by fostering collaboration among communities and businesses. The program is set to officially kick off on June 1st, marking a significant move towards sustainable economic growth through community engagement.
