NIDA Poll Shows Teng Leading in 2026 Prime Minister Race

Bangkok: NIDA Poll released the results of its "First Round of Election Trends 2026" survey, revealing that "Teng," a prominent figure in Thai politics, leads in public support for Prime Minister, narrowly ahead of "Anutin," another candidate for the position.

According to Thai News Agency, a public opinion survey center, the survey titled "First Round: Election Trends 2026," conducted from January 5-8, 2026, included responses from 2,500 people nationwide. The survey asked participants who they would support as Prime Minister if elections were held today. The results showed that 24.76% favored Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut from the People's Party, placing him in first position. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul from the Bhumjaithai Party followed in second place with 20.84% support. A notable 14.12% of respondents indicated they could not find a suitable candidate.

The survey also ranked other candidates, with Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva from the Democrat Party receiving 12.12%, Mr. Yotsanan Wongsawat from the Pheu Thai Party at 9.64%, and General Rangsi Kitiyanasap from the Economic Party at 5.04%. Additional candidates included Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan from the Thai Sang Thai Party at 2.64%, Mr. Julapan Amornvivat from the Pheu Thai Party at 1.92%, Ms. Sirikanya Tansakul from the People's Party at 1.84%, and Mr. Peerapan Salirathavipak from the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party at 1.32%.

Regarding political party preferences for constituency-based parliamentary elections, the People's Party led with 30.40%, followed by the Bhumjaithai Party at 21.96%. The Pheu Thai Party garnered 15.72%, the Democrat Party 12.16%, and 8.40% of respondents remained undecided. The Economic Party received 4.04%, the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party 2.20%, and the Thai Sang Thai Party 1.60%.

In terms of list-based MPs, the People's Party again led with 30.48%, followed by the Bhumjaithai Party at 22.32%, and the Pheu Thai Party at 15.44%. The Democrat Party received 12.56%, while 7.80% were undecided. The Economic Party followed with 4.16%, the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party with 2.24%, and the Thai Sang Thai Party with 1.76%.
