Nonthaburi Campaign Incident Sparks Controversy Over Volunteer Behavior

Nonthaburi: A candidate from the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) in Nonthaburi has highlighted numerous irregularities following an incident involving a PDRC volunteer who made an obscene gesture. The PDRC has since disassociated itself from the volunteer.

According to Thai News Agency, Suthat Meesiri, a Pheu Thai candidate in Nonthaburi, has submitted a letter to the Nonthaburi Provincial Committee addressing the incident where a volunteer from his campaign was seen giving the middle finger to political competitor Kunakorn Mannateerai. Meesiri clarified that the individual involved was not a registered campaign assistant but merely a volunteer, distancing the Pheu Thai party from the act.

Meesiri, who is running for Member of Parliament in Nonthaburi Constituency 6, emphasized in his letter that the volunteer, identified as Mr. Teerathorn Thanapanich (Mark), was only temporarily assisting the campaign. He stated that the volunteer was recommended by a local contact but had not undergone a thorough background check due to his temporary status.

Meesiri affirmed that the behavior displayed was against his campaign's policies, which prioritize respectful engagement and adherence to democratic principles. He strongly condemned the actions of the volunteer, highlighting that it was an isolated incident that did not reflect the values of his campaign.

Furthermore, Meesiri pointed out several suspicious factors surrounding the event, suggesting it might have been staged for political discrediting. He noted that the opposing party's coincidental presence at the market, along with the deliberate filming of the incident, raised doubts about the intentions behind the occurrence.

In response to the incident, Meesiri has taken immediate action by instructing the volunteer to cease all campaign activities. He has also implemented stricter measures in recruiting and monitoring volunteers to prevent future occurrences.

Meesiri concluded his letter by requesting a thorough review from the Nonthaburi Provincial Working Group and expressed his willingness to provide further information to maintain the integrity of the People's Party.
