Northern Thailand Braces for Summer Storms with Weather Warning Issued

Bangkok: Northern Thailand will experience hot weather as a warning has been issued for March 3-6 to prepare for summer storms.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department reports hot weather during the day in upper Thailand, with scattered thunderstorms and strong winds expected. A warning has been issued for March 3rd-6th to prepare for the impending summer storms.

The Meteorological Department indicates that upper Thailand will face daytime heat, with the potential for scattered thunderstorms and strong winds in the lower central region, including Bangkok, the eastern region, and the northeastern region. This weather pattern is attributed to southerly and southwesterly winds bringing moisture to these areas, combined with a low-pressure system caused by heat over upper Thailand. Residents are advised to exercise caution by avoiding open spaces, large trees, unstable structures, and weak advertising signs, and to take care of their health due to the changing weather conditions.

In the southern region, scattered thunderstorms are anticipated due to westerly winds affecting the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand are expected to be approximately 1 meter high, potentially rising to over 2 meters in stormy areas. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in areas prone to thunderstorms.

Additionally, during March 3-6, 2026, summer storms are forecast to impact upper Thailand, beginning in the northeastern region. The eastern, central, Bangkok and its surrounding areas, as well as the northern region, will be affected subsequently. These storms are expected to bring thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy rainfall in certain areas, along with potential lightning strikes. This is due to a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China moving over the northeastern region and the South China Sea, while upper Thailand remains hot, compounded by a westerly wind wave moving across the northern and upper northeastern regions.
