Num Kanchai Pursues Criminal Charges Against Pu Manthana in Defamation Lawsuit

Bangkok: Lawyer Tui reveals that Num Kanchai is suing Pu Manthana in 5 cases involving 64 counts, not seeking damages, but only criminal punishment. Pu Manthana smiles defiantly, saying, "I'm very ready! I'm confident!"

According to Thai News Agency, the defamation lawsuit filed by renowned TV host Num Kanchai against Pu Manthana has escalated, following Pu's derogatory remarks that labeled the host as a "mafia media" figure and insulted his family. Num Kanchai, represented by lawyer Tui Pornsak, has authorized the legal proceedings, with the court having accepted the lawsuit.

This morning, Lawyer Tui Pornsak appeared at the Ratchada Criminal Court for witness examination and preliminary hearings. He clarified, "Today we are here for a defamation case by publication. There is a second case that the court has accepted as having merit. The content consists of defamatory posts made over the past 5-6 months, with separate lawsuits filed for each post." He added that P' Num seeks only criminal punishment, with 22 counts in the current case and a total of 64 counts across five cases.

The legal action includes three cases at the Ratchada Criminal Court, one at the Bangkok South Court, and one at Tha Kham Police Station, with no countersuits from Pu Manthana. In instances where the court sees merit, the opposing party must apply for bail, with a security deposit of 10,000 baht per case required.

Lawyer Tui explained the court's denial of bail, citing Pu's history of repeated behavior and disregard for the law. Despite Pu's denial of naming Num Kanchai directly, the content was deemed defamatory. Tui emphasized that Pu's ongoing posts suggest awareness of his legal situation, questioning the rationale behind his actions.

In response to Pu Manthana's social media post accusing Num Kanchai and his lawyers of filing duplicate lawsuits, Lawyer Tui clarified the legal strategy. He mentioned filing the initial case at Huamark Police Station and personally handling subsequent lawsuits due to the volume of cases. He described Pu's posts as interconnected narratives acknowledging the consequences of his actions, urging a reconsideration of his approach to stress relief and legal defenses.
