Laem chabang: Livestock and Customs officials have seized 32 containers of chicken feet that were falsely declared as "frozen food."
According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, Dr. Somchuan Ratnamangklanont, disclosed that a joint inspection was conducted at Laem Chabang Port, where the Customs Department discovered the misdeclaration during an examination of imported containers.
Dr. Ratnamangklanont reported that the inspection was prompted by a notification from the Laem Chabang Port Authority to the head of the Laem Chabang Animal Quarantine Station. The goods, imported from abroad since the end of January 2026, were suspected to be livestock products, leading to the coordinated inspection by the Customs Department. Upon checking, officials found frozen chicken feet, requiring legal permits, yet declared as "Frozen Food." Consequently, the containers were seized for further investigation.
The seizure involved different dates: five containers on January 21, 2026; twenty-six containers on January 22, 2026; and one unit on February 14, 2026, making a total of 32 containers. As of now, no parties have claimed ownership or initiated any customs procedures regarding the seized goods.
The seized chicken feet originated from Malaysia, weighing over 700,000 kilograms, and from the People's Republic of China, weighing over 143,000 kilograms, totaling approximately 843,000 kilograms. The Director-General emphasized that importing meat requires permission and proper documentation, including source certification and disease inspection results, as stipulated by law. Violators face charges under the Animal Epidemics Act B.E. 2558 (2015) for importing without permission, and false declarations constitute an offense under the Customs Act B.E. 2560 (2017).
