Bangkok: The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has introduced its "Government House team," advocating for the appointment of five deputy prime ministers to rejuvenate Thailand's economic landscape and elevate it to the status of the fifth "Asian Tiger." This initiative is part of a broader effort to reform the government, stimulate the private sector, and position Thailand as a leading force in ASEAN.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party, unveiled a comprehensive plan consisting of 12 pre-election government missions. He highlighted the persistent challenges faced by Thailand, including a stagnant economy, outdated industries, and rampant corruption, which have hindered the nation's development. The PAD's strategy involves forming a centralized administrative team at Government House, prioritizing merit-based appointments over political party quotas.
The proposed "Government House team" includes Deputy Prime Ministers focused on democracy, economic affairs, public sector reform, and quality of life. Mr. Weerayut Kanchuchat, tasked with economic affairs, outlined a vision to propel Thai industry towards technology-driven sectors, enhancing competitiveness and global market integration. The plan includes significant investments in semiconductor development, machinery upgrades, and the creation of a supportive ecosystem for emerging industries.
Addressing domestic challenges, the PAD aims to transform current economic problems into opportunities by focusing on component manufacturing and private sector investment. The plan targets the revitalization of ailing industries and the adoption of technology in agriculture, while also tackling climate change and pollution with advanced data analysis tools.
Furthermore, the PAD has declared a crackdown on Thailand's gray market through initiatives such as a "receipt lottery" to support small retailers, aiming to double registered VAT revenue. The proposal also introduces an open OCN system to reduce reliance on foreign-owned online platforms, fostering local market growth.
In foreign policy, the PAD seeks to restore Thailand's standing within ASEAN by leveraging diplomacy to address regional challenges and fostering cross-border trade and investment. The party emphasizes the importance of education in promoting Thai cultural pride and aims to attract foreign investment through modern technology partnerships.
Ms. Sirikanya Tansakul outlined the government's reform goals, focusing on transparency, anti-corruption measures, and regulatory streamlining. The PAD plans to eliminate redundant regulations, modernize government operations, and enhance fiscal management to boost public service efficacy and local governance.
The PAD's decentralization strategy includes holding simultaneous provincial governor elections, increasing provincial subsidies, and empowering local administrative organizations. This approach aims to address public welfare needs effectively, promote citizen participation, and ensure government accountability.
These comprehensive reforms are designed to overcome longstanding obstacles and position Thailand as a competitive, innovative, and influential player on the global stage.
