Bangkok: Parit Wacharasindhu, along with parliamentary candidates from the People's Party in the education sector, commemorated National Teachers' Day by promoting a new policy aimed at empowering teachers. The policy, titled "Give time back to teachers, return teachers to the classroom," emphasizes reducing administrative burdens, developing targeted skills, and aligning career advancement with student development.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Parit and his team, including Mr. Thirasak Chiratrachoo, Mr. Parames Sirirat, Mr. Parin Chiraphatsin, Ms. Tamhathai Chanaburanasak, and Mr. Sommeth Yuwasut, gathered near the Teachers' Council of Thailand to engage with teachers and discuss the People's Party's initiatives. The campaign underscores three main principles: reducing non-teaching tasks, enhancing skill development, and linking career growth to student success.
The first principle focuses on minimizing administrative duties, allowing teachers to devote more time to classroom activities. Any task that does not benefit students is to be reduced or offered as optional, depending on each school's context. Mr. Parit emphasized the need to hire more administrative staff and streamline procedures through digital solutions to further alleviate teachers' workloads.
Regarding skill development, the People's Party plans to adapt teaching methods and skills to align with student-centric curricula. This shift aims to transform teachers from information transmitters to facilitators of personalized student growth. Training funds will be reallocated to give teachers the autonomy to choose skills that best serve their classroom needs.
The third principle, career advancement aligned with student development, proposes a performance evaluation system that links teachers' career growth to their effectiveness and student outcomes. The system will incorporate continuous development and 360-degree evaluations, involving input from both students and teachers.
Parit concluded that a meaningful education is characterized by teachers having sufficient time with students and fulfilling learning experiences that lead to happy, engaged educators and learners.
