Bangkok: The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has refrained from commenting on the potential involvement of Kla Tham in the government, asserting its readiness to serve as the opposition. The People's Party has similarly dismissed the possibility of joining the government, emphasizing its desire to see coalition partners advance their campaign policies and is also prepared to fulfill its opposition role.
According to Thai News Agency, Parit Wacharasindhu, spokesperson for the People's Party, remarked on the government formation process, noting that there is nothing unexpected about the parties joining or abstaining from the coalition. He affirmed the People's Party's commitment to its role as the leading opposition party. Wacharasindhu compared the coalition parties to a couple in love, while depicting the opposition as a group of singles uniting for a cause.
Regarding the stability of the government, he stated that it is contingent not on numerical strength but on the effective implementation of policies aimed at solving public issues. He expressed concern that there is no clear indication of how the coalition parties will harmonize their diverse policies. During the election campaign, the parties had distinct agendas, and now that they have opted to form a government, there remains uncertainty about their ability to find common ground and prioritize these varying policies.
In its capacity as the leading opposition party, the People's Party is preparing to propose several legislative amendments once parliament is in session. These include constitutional amendments on a section-by-section basis, provisions for citizens to petition for the removal of independent organizations, and changes to the Social Security Act to enhance transparency in the management of the social security fund, particularly regarding contributions from insured individuals.
