Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has instructed governors across the nation to enforce ten measures to enhance public safety during the New Year holidays in 2026. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Interior's Action 5 policy, with the Damrongtham Center hotline (1567) and the Safety Hotline (1784) available 24/7 for public assistance.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, the Permanent Secretary, emphasized the importance of safety during the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day festivities, which will see several consecutive holidays. The public is expected to travel and participate in celebrations that often include fireworks and sky lanterns. Past incidents have highlighted risks such as explosions, fires, and altercations, including the illegal firing of firearms.
To mitigate these risks, Mr. Sampanrat has directed various government agencies to collaborate with all 76 provinces. Key measures include ensuring the safety of homes and buildings by checking electrical outlets and gas burners, forming integrated security teams, inspecting structural integrity of construction and boating infrastructure, and enforcing compliance with hotel and entertainment venue laws. Regulations regarding firearms, fireworks, and road safety will also be strictly implemented.
Mr. Sampanrat also urged provincial governors to advance the "Ministry of Interior Acts Immediately: Action 5" policy. This policy focuses on economic stimulus, resolving international disputes, addressing drug problems, enhancing disaster management, and maintaining security.
In terms of disaster prevention, governors are required to enforce disaster plans and conduct drills for various scenarios, including cold weather and pollution challenges. The Permanent Secretary called for public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities and emphasized the role of administrative officials in maintaining peace.
The Ministry of Interior aims for a safe and joyful New Year celebration for all citizens in 2026.
