Permanent Secretary Urges Provincial Governors to Enhance Grassroots Economy and Reduce Inequality

Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has instructed the governors of all 76 provinces to accelerate the development of the grassroots economy.

According to Thai News Agency, this directive aims to promote community identity, stimulate the economy and tourism, and address social inequality, thereby enhancing the quality of life for citizens and fostering sustainable community strength. The initiative is part of the "Ministry of Interior's Action 5" approach.

Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, highlighted the Ministry's mission, aligning with the policy of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. The "Ministry of Interior Acts Immediately: Action 5" approach includes promoting economic stimulus policies, resolving Thai-Cambodian disputes, tackling drug issues, and enhancing disaster response capabilities. The governors of all provinces, in collaboration with government agencies, the military, and police, are implementing these missions effectively, achieving notable results.

To further the "Ministry of Interior's Immediate Action 5" initiative, the Permanent Secretary emphasized two key areas: developing the grassroots economy and reducing social inequality. The focus on the grassroots economy involves leveraging provincial, district, and local administrative mechanisms to alleviate living costs and promote community identity, culture, and local wisdom. This includes enhancing the development of OTOP products and community tourism, and upskilling entrepreneurs to access broader markets.

In terms of reducing social inequality, efforts are directed towards ensuring equitable access to government welfare, promoting employment, resolving housing issues, and enhancing education. The initiative also includes improving community environments and upgrading public spaces to be inclusive and conducive to all age groups, while ensuring proper waste management.

Provincial governors are urged to use their legal authority and coordinate resources to implement projects aligned with the "Ministry of Interior's Action 5" approach. They are encouraged to prioritize public benefit, adhere to regulations, and continuously monitor project progress to ensure tangible and sustainable positive change for communities.
