Phayao District 1 Reopens Polling Stations for Re-Voting Amidst Election Irregularities

Phayao: District 1, Phayao, has reopened its polling stations as part of a re-voting process. The Provincial Election Commission is making significant efforts to inform and encourage citizens to participate in the voting process.

According to Thai News Agency, the polling stations in Phayao District 1 have been reopened following a directive from the Election Commission. This decision came after irregularities were detected during the previous voting process. At polling station 6 in Village 4, Tha Wang Thong Subdistrict, voters began arriving steadily after the station opened at 8:00 AM.

Ms. Panadda Chanchotiyan, Director of the Phayao Provincial Election Commission Office, provided insights into the re-voting process for a new Member of Parliament in Constituency 1. She mentioned that preparations were made, including staff briefings and changes to polling station officials to ensure compliance with the Election Commission's resolutions. The adjustments aimed to enhance the suitability and capability of officials overseeing the election process.

Ms. Chanchotiyan emphasized the readiness to support voters throughout the day. With 439 eligible voters in the area, the expectation is that around 50 percent will participate. Efforts are being made to boost voter turnout through various channels.

The re-voting process follows the discovery of misconduct involving an election official who improperly handled 14 ballots by placing them in the ballot box. Subsequent to this incident, two phases of legal proceedings against the official have been completed. The criminal case is closed, and the Election Commission's investigation division is continuing the inquiry in line with established regulations.

This re-election marks a pivotal moment as the Election Commission strives to uphold the integrity of the voting process in Phayao District 1.
