Songkhla: “Phiphat” went to Highway 43 to inspect the problem of seawater erosion. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, visited Thepha District, Songkhla Province, to inspect Highway 43, a strategic route connecting the three southern border provinces. He also monitored the resolution of seawater erosion along the coastline and presided over the opening of the Pak Bang 68 Market, a community-developed market to increase economic opportunities for local residents.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pipat revealed that Highway 43 is a key route connecting the coastal areas of Songkhla, Pattani, and Narathiwat, supporting travel, tourism, border trade, and agricultural transport in the South. Maintaining the stability of this road is crucial to the lives of residents. One urgent issue that needs to be addressed is seawater erosion of roadside areas and communities. The Ministry of Transport is therefore expediting the reinforcement of bank protection structures and drainage systems to protect the soil, livelihood areas, and the province’s main artery, the road. We must ensure that this road is safe, strong, and continuously usable, especially during the monsoon season. Relevant agencies are instructed to monitor sea levels to ensure smooth travel and transport of goods. Today’s mission also includes the opening of the Pak Bang 68 Market, a community-run market designed to provide a trading and income-generating area for residents along the highway. Mr. Pipat stated that when communities have markets, income, and accessible infrastructure, coastal areas will thrive, have opportunities, and be able to grow into a strong grassroots economy. The Pak Bang 68 Market will promote the sale of agricultural products, seafood, and community goods, and serve as a gathering point for coastal communities. This reinforces the role of Highway 43, which is not just a transportation route, but also promotes the grassroots economy of Songkhla and the three southern border provinces.
