Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn Oversees Urgent Repairs to Collapsed Samsen Road

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, along with senior officials, visited the collapsed Samsen Road area to ensure the progress of repair work. This visit follows the demolition commencement of the Samsen Police Station building, with a strong emphasis on adhering to the highest safety standards during the repair process.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phiphat, with Permanent Secretary of Transport Mr. Chaiyatham Promsorn, and key figures from the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), including Chairman Mr. Montri Dechasakulsom and Governor Mr. Kajpajon Udomthampakdee, assessed the situation. The collapse, which occurred on September 24, 2025, in front of Vajira Hospital, triggered an immediate response to address the subsidence and ensure public safety.

Mr. Phiphat stated that all agencies involved must act swiftly and report on progress regularly. He assured that the government is committed to resolving the issue promptly to restore safety and public confidence. Today’s inspection noted the need to demolish the unstable Samsen Police Station building, which had developed significant cracks. The Prime Minister, prioritizing safety, consented to the demolition despite potential delays in road restoration. The Ministry of Transport and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration apologized for the inconvenience and committed to providing updates on the timeline.

The MRTA and the civil engineering contractor revised their plans to ensure worker safety amid space constraints. Demolition will start on the building’s left side using cranes and robotic technology to minimize vibrations impacting nearby Vajira Hospital. The right side’s demolition will be postponed to allow for subsurface stabilization through chemical grouting, followed by sand filling and asphalt surfacing. The project’s civil engineering contractor will handle the reconstruction of the Samsen Police Station building.
