Nonthaburi: The high fuel price crisis has placed significant pressure on Phra Payom Kalyano, the abbot of Wat Suan Kaew, prompting him to request a temporary halt to his charitable activities. The increased expenses and reduced donations from parishioners have made it unsustainable for the temple to continue its charitable efforts.
According to Thai News Agency, Phra Payom Kalyano has acknowledged the financial strain on Wat Suan Kaew. The temple, located in Bang Yai District, is currently managing monthly expenses of 8-9 million baht while caring for nearly 1,500 individuals including animals, the elderly, students, people with disabilities, and the unemployed. The decrease in donations, attributed to the high fuel prices, has made it necessary for the temple to temporarily suspend its donation acceptance to avoid further financial strain.
Phra Payom emphasized the importance of adapting to the situation and ensuring the temple's survival. He expressed that it would be inappropriate to continue accepting donations if it meant further hardship for those already affected by the economic climate. The plan is to resume accepting donations and providing support once the situation improves, and Phra Payom has asked for understanding from the public during this challenging time.
