Bangkok: Phumtham Wechayachai, a prominent figure in the Pheu Thai Party, former Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Interior, has emphatically responded to criticisms from Viroj, asserting that the underlying issues arise from within their own party. He stressed the importance of accountability, stating that apologies are insufficient in addressing the mistakes made by any political party or individual. Phumtham highlighted that the Pheu Thai Party had engaged in discussions with leaders of the People's Movement but faced accusations of unreliability. He urged all parties to refrain from interfering with one another and to focus on fulfilling their respective duties, leaving the ultimate judgment to the people.

According to Thai News Agency, Phumtham shared his views on social media, thanking those who provided feedback on his recent post concerning "collusion in the Senate." He clarified that his intention was not to engage in political back-and-forth but to advocate for responsible political actions that honor the voices of the electorate. He criticized those who engage in political maneuvering to present themselves as virtuous while deflecting blame onto the Pheu Thai Party, highlighting that mere apologies cannot resolve entrenched issues.

Phumtham emphasized that the Pheu Thai Party operates independently and does not require directives from other parties. He recounted a prior discussion with representatives from the Orange Party, including key figures like Mr. Teng, Mr. Pijarn Chaowpattanawong, Mr. Sarayut Jailak, and Mr. Aitim. He noted that while the Pheu Thai Party had adhered to a request not to conduct interviews, they had nonetheless engaged in thorough discussions during meetings involving Deputy Party Leaders Chusuk Sirinil and Jiraporn Sindhuphai, as well as Party Secretary-General Sarawong Thianthong.

In his statement, Phumtham reiterated that the Pheu Thai Party has fulfilled its obligations to the best of its ability, extending an invitation for political collaboration that was met with non-cooperation and accusations of broken promises. He questioned the trustworthiness of the party chosen by his critics, urging all parties to focus on their roles and responsibilities without interfering in the decisions of others.
