Poh Teck Tung Foundation Continues Tradition with Caravan of Essential Goods for Bangkok’s Underprivileged

Bangkok: The Poh Teck Tung Foundation has dispatched a caravan of essential goods to distribute to the underprivileged in six districts of Bangkok, as part of its annual "Throwing of the Rice" tradition in 2026. The event, held at the Tai Hong Kong Jade Shrine in Sathorn District, was presided over by Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt, along with foundation executives and staff. A convoy of trucks carrying essential supplies was sent for distribution to the needy in the target areas.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wichit Chinwongworakul, Vice Chairman of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, emphasized that distributing essential goods to the underprivileged is a long-standing duty and mission of the foundation, carried out continuously for over 100 years. This mission aligns with the foundation's objective of helping society.

In response to the flooding in Nan province, the foundation dispatched a large rescue team of over 60 people to the area on August 19th. They established a mobile kitchen to prepare 3,000 meals daily and used boats to deliver relief supplies and medicine to flood victims. The foundation's policy is to save lives, preserve lives, and build lives, utilizing public donations to aid those affected by the disaster.

The event also included the continuation of the "throwing offerings" tradition, an ancient practice dating back to the time of Buddha. Participants make merit and dedicate it to the deceased, including relatives, non-relatives, and spirits of all races and religions who were once buried in the cemetery of Wat Don before it became the Tai Hong Kong White Jade Shrine.

For over 116 years, the Poh Teck Tung Foundation has upheld the tradition of the "Throwing of the Offerings" ceremony, dedicating merit to the deceased and assisting the underprivileged. This year, the foundation organized a caravan of essential goods to six districts in Bangkok: Sathorn, Taling Chan, Thawi Watthana, Nong Chok, Min Buri, and Rat Burana, to alleviate hardship and boost morale. This effort continues the foundation's commitment to charity, giving, and supporting fellow human beings.
