Bangkok: "Big Jok" acknowledges the charges but denies accepting bribes from the National Anti-Corruption Commission. Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakparn, the former Deputy National Police Chief, has been implicated in a case involving alleged bribery of a National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) official. Despite acknowledging the charges, Hakparn firmly denies the accusations that he attempted to bribe the NACC with gold bars valued at 246 baht.
According to Thai News Agency, the allegations surfaced following a coordinated search operation targeting 11 locations in Bangkok and other provinces linked to Hakparn. These searches were part of the ongoing investigation into claims that he offered the gold bars as a bribe to influence the outcome of a case against him.
Hakparn presented himself at the Anti-Corruption Division headquarters to formally acknowledge the charges of malfeasance in office and the alleged promise to provide benefits to a public official. Initially, he was uncooperative with investigators, refusing to provide a statement. However, his stance shifted once Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaroonkiat Panngaeo, Deputy Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, identified himself as part of the investigation team. Following protocol, Hakparn then agreed to listen to the charges.
The case continues to unfold as authorities delve deeper into the investigation, seeking further evidence to support the allegations.
