Bangkok: The Pollution Control Department warns that monitoring of PM2.5 levels exceeding standards is still necessary in some areas. The department reports that while PM2.5 levels are showing an improving trend, monitoring remains crucial in certain regions likely to continue exceeding the standard until January 12.
According to Thai News Agency, the Pollution Control Department provided the results of air quality monitoring nationwide as of January 5, 2026, at 7:00 AM. The overall situation of PM2.5 particulate matter in the country is mostly within standard levels, yet some areas, particularly Bangkok and several provinces in the Central, Western, and Northeastern regions, still record high levels surpassing the standard.
Measurements indicate that areas with PM2.5 levels exceeding the standard include Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram, and Nong Khai. A regional breakdown reveals that the Northern region enjoys good air quality, with measurements ranging from 5.9 to 30.2 micrograms per cubic meter. In the Northeast, one area exceeds the standard, with readings from 13.2 to 53.1 micrograms per cubic meter.
In the Central region, two areas report levels exceeding the standard, with measurements spanning 20.5 to 43.7 micrograms per cubic meter. The Eastern region shows good overall air quality, with measurements between 15.1 and 25.9 micrograms per cubic meter. The Southern region benefits from very good air quality, with measurements from 11.1 to 19.2 micrograms per cubic meter.
Bangkok and its surrounding areas, monitored by the Pollution Control Department in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, found levels exceeding the standard in five areas, with measurements ranging from 19.3 to 40.8 micrograms per cubic meter. The general public is advised to monitor their health, reduce outdoor activity duration, or use protective equipment. Those at higher risk should minimize outdoor activities and consult a doctor if unusual symptoms occur.
The 7-day forecast from January 6-12, 2026, anticipates a decrease in air pollution levels in Bangkok and surrounding areas, as well as the Central, Western, Northern, Northeastern, and Eastern regions between January 6-9, though continuous monitoring is recommended. The Southern region maintains good air quality. Official air quality information can be accessed on the websites Air4Thai.com and airbkk.com, and through the Air4Thai and AirBKK applications.
